On October 30, 2009, join us for Hear Indiana ’s 27th Annual Educational Conference on Listening and Spoken Language: Hear Here Indianapolis presented by Peyton Manning Children's Hospital at St.Vincent.
This conference will provide state-of-the-art information on hearing technology and the most up-to-date strategies on improving listening skills and spoken language. Our conferences also provide specific strategies for improving language and literacy levels. With your help we will improve early intervention and school age services for children with hearing loss.
Why should you attend?
- Eighty percent of Hoosier children who are deaf or hard of hearing attend neighborhood schools. That’s ~2500 children who are currently educated “in the mainstream.”
- There is a severe shortage of providers (i.e., deaf educators trained in listening and spoken language, speech-language pathologists, and audiologists) to work with the growing number of children who are learning to listen and speak.
- Educating deaf and hard of hearing students in their local public schools requires teachers to acquire a new skill set in order to provide children with hearing loss complete access to their educational environment.
- Today’s technology (e.g., digital hearing aids, cochlear implants, FM systems, and captioning) affords deaf and hard of hearing children new opportunities. As a result, more deaf and hard of hearing children are achieving age-appropriate spoken language and literacy skills than ever before.
- Hear Indiana is a past winner of the AG Bell Education Award for its outstanding conferences.
- Attendance at Hear Indiana conferences is up 100% over the last two years. Over 150 parents and professionals joined us in 2008, and in 2009 a Webinar option will be offered.
